An old social post can contain a useful product photograph and an offer that is no longer true. Separate reusable product facts from time-specific promotion before building a catalogue record.

Establish that the item is still sold

Check the product with the merchant's current records. A post remaining online does not mean the item, colour or price remains available.

Mark discontinued or uncertain entries instead of importing everything into an active store.

Separate description from promotion

Keep genuine material, size and included-item information where it is still accurate. Remove expired deadlines, temporary discounts and old delivery claims unless they remain intentionally valid.

Do not infer a permanent product name from a campaign slogan. Give the catalogue a stable identity that can be understood without the original post.

Verify image rights and accuracy

Confirm the business is entitled to reuse the image and that it still depicts the item being sold. A customer photograph or collaboration asset may have a different permission boundary from the merchant's own product photo.

Do not crop away an important qualification or generate a replacement that changes the product.

Rebuild the buying information

Social copy may omit options, stock and fulfilment details because the original workflow expected a conversation. Fill those fields from current evidence, not from inference.

Ask the merchant to resolve missing facts. A draft with a clear unresolved field is safer than a complete-looking listing containing invented details.

Keep a source trail

Record the original post reference, current product identity and the date the facts were checked. That helps explain later differences without treating the old caption as the permanent source of truth.

This is a preparation method, not a claim of automatic Instagram catalogue import. Use product-catalogue guidance to shape the destination record and social-selling guides to decide how the refreshed catalogue should be shared.

Illustrative case to check

An old post advertises a festive set with free delivery until a date that has passed. The photographs may still be usable with permission, but the offer is not automatically current. Confirm the product composition and current price, then create a fresh catalogue record without carrying over the expired delivery claim.

Use this guide, then test your own workflow.

Examples are illustrative. Confirm current features, charges and suitability before making a business decision.
