Describe a handmade bag through usable internal measurements

Describe a handmade bag with opening, internal space and handle measurements rather than relying only on its outer size.

A bag can be wide on the outside but narrow at the opening. It may look spacious in a photograph while a lining, curved base or internal pocket reduces the usable space.

Give customers measurements that answer what they can actually place inside. Outer dimensions remain useful, but they are only part of the specification.

Measure the finished bag in a defined state

State whether the bag is measured flat, lightly filled or standing in its normal shape. A soft bag can produce different numbers depending on how it is arranged.

Record height, width and depth where those dimensions are meaningful. Explain irregular shapes rather than forcing them into an unexplained box.

Use the finished product, including lining and closure, rather than the unfinished outer panel.

Show the opening separately

Measure the usable opening or describe its practical shape. A wide body with a short zip may not accept an object as wide as the bag itself.

Photograph the opening with the closure fully open in its intended use. Do not stretch or force it to create a more generous impression.

If the bag has a frame or rigid mouth, include that construction in the description.

Demonstrate contents honestly

A contents photograph can help, but identify the items used for scale and state that they are not included. Use ordinary objects whose dimensions you can report where needed.

Do not claim that every laptop, tablet or bottle fits because one sample does. Device and container dimensions vary.

If you name a particular item used in a demonstration, make clear that it is a measured example rather than a universal compatibility promise.

Record internal space and obstructions

Show the lining, dividers and pockets. A pocket can be useful while also affecting how a larger object sits.

For a structured bag, give useful internal measurements if you can measure them consistently. For a soft irregular bag, explain the limits of a precise capacity claim and rely on clear dimensions and representative contents.

Avoid inventing a litre capacity from a rough rectangular calculation when the bag does not retain that shape.

Include handle and strap measurements

State the handle drop or strap length using a defined method. For an adjustable strap, provide the usable range and explain what the measurement includes.

Show the attachment points and whether the strap is removable. Do not let a photograph imply that an optional strap is supplied as standard.

Use the custom strap specification guide for non-standard requests.

Avoid unsupported load promises

A bag holding several props in a photograph is not evidence of a tested load rating. Do not publish a maximum weight unless it is supported for the finished construction.

Describe intended use factually and keep safety or durability claims within the evidence you have. A strong-looking handle is not a substitute for assessment.

If a customer asks about a use outside your confirmed specification, say what is unknown rather than reassuring them from appearance.

Keep measurements tied to variants

Different sizes, linings or closures may change usable space. Check each meaningful variant instead of copying the first sample's measurements.

If handmade variation affects dimensions, establish the expected range from your process. Do not use a broad variation note to excuse a substantially different size.

Maintain the current record when a pattern or supplier component changes.

Finish with a customer comparison

Encourage the customer to compare the listed opening and internal dimensions with the objects they want to carry. The decision should not depend on the word roomy.

Before publishing, ask someone to identify the opening size, overall shape, strap arrangement and included items from the page. Add the missing fact wherever they have to guess.

That is how a handmade bag listing becomes useful: it helps the buyer understand the space and construction they will receive, while leaving unsupported capacity and load claims out of the sales promise.
